think someone made a cps 2 emulator already, but it needs a GUI. Its not the complete mame but it should suffice some of your temporary needs check here: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=41158, ....heard its actually full speed haven't tried it though :/

Perhaps I am reading this wrong, but SDLMAME works fine on the N900. In fact, this is the first phone sized device I have tried that actually is running a newer romset. All other MAME versions use the old 034/035 romsets. The N900 with SDLMAME has the potential of running a LOT more games. It already does now. Just needs improvements with NeoGeo and few others sets, but Flandry is working on ways to make the emu more efficient down the road.

CPS2 would be a nice bridge if someone could get a GUI like SDLMAME has and install process like it as well. Terminal commands are so DOS and will limit community adoption of it.

If this is the FInal Burn version, it should also run NeoGeo games too. That would be nice, since Final Burn works better on these type of devices for those games, CPS2 and Cave as well.

UPDATE:

SDLMAME has loaded and played almost every game I have tried. After trying hundreds of games, it plays about 60% of them smooth with sound. Another 10% play well with frame adjustments. 70% rate with a full 135 romset is already tons more games than the entire 034/035b set.

I also tried to install SDLMAME twice (PR1.0 and PR1.1) and it did not work on my N900. It installs fine but when try to tap its icon starts to load then crash. I read many others telling the same thing happens.

Does anyone know if there is any additional package dependency or configuration that should be done after installing it?

Perhaps Flandry can think of a reason why it does not load up? I am using version 3 that is in the repository and I have the recent FW update installed. I use the 135 romset, but methodically went through (yes, I did) the entire rom list for cpu platforms that I knew would not work well and fltered them out. I am a HEAVY junky in regards to MAME.

I notice that some games play better than Dingoo and some do not. One thing I do notice is a lot more games load up on the N900 than do not on Dingoo. Still, Dingoo uses MAME4ALL, which is only the 034b/035 romset. A lot more games play on the N900 and more than I thought would, play well. Still wish Galaga 88 would though . Funny, since DonPachi and others are more complex and are playable. Such are the mysteries of MAME I guess.

If Flandry has time to afford more love to SDLMAME, we could have the ultimate portable MAME version of any device.

BTW, Final Burn ROCKS on DIngoo

The original version did not for me either. I uninstalled it and the second and third versions both have worked fine.

I suggest sending Flandry a note, or post about it so others can be aware as well. Shame for such a great thing to not be enjoyed by others. There are TONS of classics that play great on the current version. We just need to give Flandy space and time to update when he can.

A portable version of an up to date MAME set (135) is a huge and unique deal. If you are an old school gamer, of course.

I'm the same Rushmnore i have mame working on anything which will take it, Like your dingoo i have mame4all on my gp2x wiz and its a great version of mame to have on the go. but carrying a wiz and a phone around is a bit too much, but this version can potentially be better and i have full confidence that flandry with get this emulator working to its full potential on the N900.

I am such an old school gamer i have an xbox 360 sat there in my back room and i just cant help myself going back to mame.(so sad)
My 1st experiences of arcade games were space invaders with green colour filter and phoenix and both were the sit down table top versions with reverse screens for player 2. great times.

SDLMAME is working fine. I just posted a link to a nice app that will help you sort through ROMS that you like, and avoid ones you don't want/need (Rushmore, take note, you will appreciate RomLister!).

ROMS go in a folder named "roms" in the common folder, you know, the "My Documents" one, on your N900. That's it, that and install the latest SDLMAME, it works fine - God Bless it!!
