Hi,

After the firmware update(to recent one), the phone app doesn't go into portrait mode when I keep the orientation automatic.
In browser also, I tried pressing ctrl+shitf+o but it doesn't go into portrait mode.
Please help.

Thanks,
Achilles

In the browser, you have to press Ctrl+Shift+o once, then close the keyboard and rotate your N900 to portrait mode. It should switch automatically.

I don't know if there is bug in the latest firmware with the phone application because I disabled that feature.

My N900 stopped switching to portrait mode too. This was after the 1.1 upgrade, so I thought that maybe it was related. But then I used the liqaccel application to check the accelerators, and test 2 and 3 clearly showed that the 'bottom' accelerator was completely stuck.

I rebooted, but that didn't help. Then I switched off again, but this time I removed the battery for 30 seconds, then rebooted. After this the accelerometer was back to normal, and phone portrait mode worked again.

Why would you use the portrait mode in browsing?
I think landscape mode is the best way for browsing.. I never needed portrait mode unless when using the phone.

Because i like it like you like landscape.

@achilles333 mine stops working every now and then and rebooting the phone usually fixes it for me.

Because it's comfortable to hold the phone in one hand, and because websites with focus on text rather than visual bling work fine in portrait mode. Talk.maemo.org with minimal dark theme is nice for portrait mode browsing, e.g.
Combine this with the shortcutd app for putting the back button on the camera focus key and you can browse very well in portrait mode.

I have a similar issue with mine: it stopped turning into portrait after some weeks of fine working. I have unistalled most of the testing apps but it's useless. The phone app launches just fine when turning the phone, so the accel is working properly. But no portrait in browser.
It doesn't have anything related to fw updates, butt with some libs I think.

Any idea of what should I do?

thanks

I've got a dreambox and use the webremote to control the Box with a virtual remote control over wlan. When I use the Browser in landscape I have to scroll up and down to reach all buttons. In portrait mode I can use the full remote control on the screen.

Could you understand this or is the portrait mode still useless?
