Hi,

I've downloaded the extra decoders support.
Xvid and stuff works perfectly, however I can't seem to play mpeg2 files
(like direct rip from DVD (vob files) or MOD files renamed from a JVC camcorder -> these are actually also mpeg2 files, you can just rename these to mpeg 2 to play them normally.

Can anybody tell me how to get Mpeg 2 to work?

1. VOB files are encrypted... at least it is not usual MPEG2 because some encapsulation. It is anywhere a trouble of playing it w/out special player. Use something to convert it.

2. You can't play HD video directly - hardware chip doesn't support a full HD video formats. However, you can install mpeg2dec package from extras-devel (usual warning - it is in development phase and be prepared to anything). This is a X-Term shell command which can play you HD files, at least I did it with my JVC HM100 MP4 video shots (actually - MPEG2). But it is PRETTY SLOW, because it doesn't use hardware accelerator. Package also includes extract_mpeg2 utility.

Warning: putting a non-standard video files (especially - HD from JVC into N900 causes a problem with media player because gst-video-thumbnailerd locks a video chip trying to extract thumbnail from HD video, see bug 8165 - https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8165
Vote for it for faster fix. Read it for workaround.
