Source packages of the example app and widget are in extras-devel:

Do I have to use c for the widget part?
Cant this be done with cpp and qt?

My purpose was to communicate with a Qt app using a native Maemo 5 widget. I found somewhere an example with code to draw directly on the root window, but it's not a native *.so home widget.
I don't remember where is this example, sorry...
