Hi there.
The N900 onscreen keyboard has the stupidiest layout ever made.
Such a waste of space!
The English layout is somewhat usable exept for numbers, but aplhabets with >30 symbols are almost completely unusable.

Both layout are not usable when we talk entering passwords since decent passwords have at least digits and rather often - special characters.

Is there a way to get a standart 5 row layoit for English and international with all characters on one screen?
Does anyone develop anything like this?

Thanks for reading.

I started to create a 5 row key virtual keyboard but got bogged down with work and other projects so I never really got too far.

if someone could point in me in the right direction in terms of which code to look at to alter the current layout I could probably get it down quicker.

One day I opened visual studio and did a quick layout. Here's what it looked like.

Actually, there's quite a decent 5 row keyaboard for the Device-that-must-not-be-named.
Here're some screenies:

the top row exact exactly like on a standart desktop. I don't know why Nokia expects me to change 25years+ typing skills for no obvious reason with a keyboard like that.

As for international, it should be almost the same, but bearing more buttons (symbols) - for Cyrillic.

And digits are a must in a decent keyboard. I like the spacy design of your example - the gaps should help avoid mistypes. But please add the top row.

And the efforts needed to switch between international layouts... probably the developing team just doesn't use the feature.

switching should be on the same panel as the symbols

There is a maemo.org Brainstorm ticket to provide other keyboard layouts, feel free to vote for it.

Well, the N900 onscreen keyboard works fine with me, I guess it is just user preference and of course you will get use to it later. I love the slideout keyboard too.

Well, if other option is available, not bad too.

I will be happy if there is a layout such as HTC layout
