I don't know why noone has answered yet, but NO!!!
The N900 does not support in ANY way the .gif format.
gif images cannot be placed as backgrounds, but that's not the most important issue; the N900 CANNOT EVEN DISPLAY GIF IMAGES!

...well, at least MOVING gif images...

Its odd actually since the About Product dialogue has a bit about Gifs

The Graphics Interchange Format (c) is Copyright property of Compuserve Incorporated. GIF (sm) is a service Mark property of Compuserve Incorporated

the browser supports animated gifs, I have a link to the national weather service radar for my area in the simple form which is an animated gif since the browser does not support the java on the advanced version

Link is like this if you wanna try

http://radar.weather.gov/ridge/lite/N0R/LTX_loop.gif

here is page where you can figure out the link for the radar imagery you want

http://www.srh.noaa.gov/jetstream/do...e_download.htm

Hmm. The gif images won't move. Is there any add-on or patch to "fix" this?
