My problem happens to be a very odd one, but all of the threads I have read do not seem to provide any verbose output or method of reproduction. The problem I am having is with the WiFi interface. Any Widget/Application that uses the WLAN interface immediately freezes my phone. I can reproduce by doing the following:

1. Turn on phone
2. Touch the time
3. Touch internet connection
4. The menu pops up alerting me that the phone is trying to find a connection, but no connection found.

Here is what is going on in the background:

wl1251: WARNING WLAN not ready
wl1251: Error unsupported chip id 0x0

However, this message does not always in dmesg. If I reboot the phone and immediately run the gainroot program in the terminal, I can see that the WLAN module does get initialized correctly. It is only after attempting to connect to a wireless access point does the problem occur and my phone locks up. I can also make the menu appear successfully by doing the following:

1. Open X-term
2. # sudo gainroot
3. # modprobe -v -r wl12xx
4. Attempting to locate an Wireless AP

The above results in the phone successfully pulling up the correct hildon menu. I also observed that after unloading the module, the phone seems a lot snappier. So in essence I have 3 questions:

1. Would flashing the device help?
2. Has anyone successfully recovered from this error?
3. If not, would it be possible to replace the Wlan chipset.

This is a an ungodly good phone if you have the right uses for it. I just want to be able to use WiFi at school. I have also read that the bluetooth and wifi antenna are similar and that if bluetooth connectivity works, then a reflash should suffice. Can someone confirm this?

Does this also happen with a mobile data connection or just with WiFi?
Does this happen with any WiFi network if you try with others?
Can you try disabling Power Saving Mode in Settings > Internet Connections and see if that helps?
Which Extra Software do you have installed?

1. Just Wifi. I tested this at school. 3G access is still available
2. I cannot connect to all wifi networks.
3. I do not see a place for the Power Saving Mode in my internet connections
4. I have 0 extra software installed. I still get the error after reflashing.

Does it detect the wifi networks okay?

You could also try reflashing the eMMC - it seems to fix some of the odder issues.

No Detection is occurring. The menu comes up and it's blank. When I remove the wifi module via modprobe -r, the Network Selection menu comes up fine. I will try reflashing the eMMC tonight.

Ok. A flash of the eMMC did not work. I think this is going back to Nokia

erm.... have you put the passkey in for all the different wifi connections your trying to connect to?

I have this problem. It started when the phone was accidentally immersed in water. The battery was immediately removed and everything was left to dry for several days.

No wireless networks show up in the connect dialog, however, the phone does not freeze as the original poster described. Bringing up the connect dialog or setting the phone to search for and connect to networks automatically causes the following lines to be printed in dmesg:

wl1251: WARNING WLAN not ready
wl1251: ERROR unsupported chip id: 0x0

@nnod:
Likely your wlan chip was short circuited and is broken now or you've got water stains on the connectors.
