NOTE: This is assuming NORMAL usage, always on 3G...I know that is a relative term, but use your common sense guys

Here is a quick poll to check if it is actually just the IM that is causing everyone problems with about the battery life. I could test this myself, but it is better to see from many people to confirm if it actually the IM that causes the problem.

I am aware that 3G is a killer IF it is in constant use, and IM seems to be the only program running that could do this. I have read through all of the battery life threads and this is only hinted at - no one seems to have done an actual test. This could solve everything for a lot of people! (of course, so long as they have fixed the wifi bug).

If it turns out that it is the IM that is the problem, I hope it can be sorted out. I personally use the Pidgin IM client, so hopefully they can find a way to make it stop using 3G so much...

I am looking forward to the results!

EDITs:

1. No need for the more than a day without IM usage option, I am only testing the IM usage.

2. By a day I mean a full waking day, from the moment you wake up to the moment you go to sleep, so ~18 hours

What if you don't use IM and get more than a days worth of battery life? I think you forgot an option And by day, do you mean from 07:00 to somewhere around 20:00 or 24 hours?

Is there a way for that to be done automatically? If so how?

Secondly, what is your battery life using this method?

Here we have nice example how you should not make poll.

Please people think couple of minutes or at least ask people here what you should put to poll.

Ok. Do you mean by day = 24 h or 12h or 8h or 2h or 20 minutes or 2 seconds. Much less is how much? And people using wifi can't answer to this poll? What is normal usage with THIS device?

I´m sorry but this is fail all the long =) There is no common sense in things like this :P sorry.

What is IM usage excatly? What protocols used what packages used? Think what kind of answers you would get from people using 4 IM or 1 IM protocol? First answer from they is that they use IM and after then you have to ask AGAIN how many and what kind of protocol they use. It will get too complicated.
