Here is a quick poll to check if it is actually just the IM that is causing everyone problems with about the battery life. I could test this myself, but it is better to see from many people to confirm if it actually the IM that causes the problem.
I am aware that 3G is a killer IF it is in constant use, and IM seems to be the only program running that could do this. I have read through all of the battery life threads and this is only hinted at - no one seems to have done an actual test. This could solve everything for a lot of people! (of course, so long as they have fixed the wifi bug).
If it turns out that it is the IM that is the problem, I hope it can be sorted out. I personally use the Pidgin IM client, so hopefully they can find a way to make it stop using 3G so much...
I am looking forward to the results!
EDITs:
1. No need for the more than a day without IM usage option, I am only testing the IM usage.
2. By a day I mean a full waking day, from the moment you wake up to the moment you go to sleep, so ~18 hours
