hey guys.. i would like to know how to download software for n900 to the pc n transfer it to the n900 for installation.. is it possible to do this or is the phone designed to download directly thru wifi or 3G

As we're basically talking about Debian here, I'm sure you could download a .deb file and copy/move it to your n900 and then run (as root) dpkg -i whateverthe packageis.deb

Offline it can be done by downloading the deb files in here or elsewhere..
Drop them for example in your mass storage and with your build explorer/browser search them and click on them...
The latest firmare installs deb files without issues.

After a bit more searching, it actually mentions dpkg in the wiki.
