Is there an area n00bs can test. I dont really want to risk bricking my device just yet. I will prob venture in a few months or so but as much as i love the device there seems to be so many cool things in testing stage.

I want stuff that i can test but in the worst case have to uninstall and reboot. I figured this may help the testing along as there may be others like me willing to test but dont really want the risk of completely bricking the device.

is this possible? reading some topics and posts it seems there is a lack of testers. Could it not be split into hardcore testing i.e developers than know what they are doing and would be able to fix their device if needs be. Then a n00b testing area when the SW is at a stage where it will not break your phone

Just an idea and seems to have been discussed here but not much activity.

I think this will also help bring in more people to testing as they can be assigned "easier/safer" apps which are further along in development, and we can leave the more difficult/more likely to brick apps for the more experienced guys. Probably mean we will have less people bricking their devices as well!
u can merge the threads if you like but thought this would be better on the n900 board as people like myself who own the device but do not venture on the development forum

I'd suggest that by using appwatch or browsing the test areas... you can use applications in the testing queue which are scoring well or near 10 - check the comments....

Uh... This is already the case? Extras-devel is the "hardcore" testing area and Extras-testing is for software that is supposed to work somewhat sanely. Sure there can still be risks with extras-testing software, but if you need further guarantees for software quality then stay with Extras. The apps there aren't completely bug-free either and may still need testing and bug reporting.

good to hear

I'd say wait for the app to be at least a few days old, check the bugs or talk pages. if other testers havn't had problems then it is safer - still not 100% safe, but good for testing
