I have a problem with playing media on my N900 - the standard media player (sometimes) doesnt find the media I have on the phone, and is very sluggish when it does find some.

On the other hand, Canola2 has an issue in that I cant work out how to switch to another application and have it running in the background, which means it is very annoying when using it

Has anyone covered this predicament? I am hoping that Canola2 isnt installed properly and/or I just don't know how to use it properly w

Canola2 at the moment is still in extras-devel, and as such isn't complete (for the N900) yet.

You can use Ctrl + Backspace on the keyboard to switch out of the application. It's the same as using the touchscreen "Task Switcher" button.

Mediabox is another alternative, and is already in extras, but has problems recognizing Albums with multiple artists as one album.

Just shoot another reply if you still need help.

Thanks for the info xomm - didnt know the Ctrl + backspace short cut, very handy

Staying with Canola2, does anyone know how to stop the screen from dimming rather than staying lit for the duration of the video being played? Its incredibly annoying and effectively makes it a useless video playback app

The OP might've thought that he wasn't/didn't get the answer he/she needed.

In that case, cheggers33, you would simply post the word "bump" in your own thread. Bumping more than 3 times discouraged though.

To answer your second question, there is an applet in extras: the "Simple Brightness Applet." It allows you to change the brightness of the screen straight from the Status Menu. Also, when you click on the icon next to the brightness scale, there is an option with a checkbox that says "Keep display on."

Try to use it sparingly, especially on full brightness, as the screen begins to heat up after an hour, and it drains battery.
