On other expensive phones I've had (my Treos, in particular), there's been a very obvious way for people to find out whose phone it is, such as owner information on the lock screen, in case I lose it.

Is there anything at all like this for the N900?

Has anyone figured out how to hack information onto the lock screen?

You could have a contact on your home screen as 'you'...call it "My contact card" or even "Me" or something similar...an honest finder would surely see that and press it....
I've found a phone or two in the past and just looked up parents or mum/dad in contacts....did the trick :-)

The Contacts menu has a "My information" thing for that info. Not sure how discoverable that would be to someone who hasn't used Maemo, though.

Now there's an idea for an app. For the lock screen (the one where you type in a PIN to unlock the device), put a "reward if found" sign with some contact details.

It would then say "click to unlock" and proceed to the virtual number pad to allow you to enter the pin.

Currently it's even still in Bugzilla: https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=793 . I would have also expected it in Brainstorm, actually.
