^ is an accent
first you press it then you chose the letter to accentuate
ê î ô â û
used in french and portuguese as far as i know
when you press once it waits for the letter, if you press twice, it understand you wanted just 2 accents so it displays ^^
if you just want one, press ^ and spacebar
this is how it works on my computer.
on my N900, though, when i press ^ twice it only displays a single ^, just like when i type ^+spacebar. thus i have to press ^ 4 times to get ^^.
weird.
what keyb layout are you using ?

I wish it would automatically do capital letters after a full stop. Neither keyboard does it : (

I'm using English-Nederlands layout oh btw isn't it should be Netherlands ? just saying....
Maybe I wasnt clear it is not freezing , when I tap ^ it changes the colour showing that it wants to add that input and doesn't type that symbol. As jesuska said i need to press ^ twice to get a single ^ displayed

Right, that's just a slightly confusing UI. Just ignore the light-coloured one and keep typing.
has anyone else noticed ?
