I`m going for a plane trip (4.5 hours) and wanted some extra juice for my N900.....I though why not take an external battery with me....problem is that the external battery is 1800mA@12V so need to convert that....so, I`m looking around found a car charger ( output 5.5v) so it`s just perfect, now I need a wire going from the battery to the car charger (check), then I need a male-to-male adapter to go from the car adapter to the Nokia adapter (check), then plug my N900 in.....IT WORKS!

Voila!.....hopefully the airline won`t think that I`m a terrorist trying to trigger a bomb....ahaha

Thanks.I`ll be careful.....I got my SCART and the tv out cable as well.Can`t wait to see some movies at the hotels plasma (hopefully) tv.

When you are already setting the naked wires, why don't you just use LM2805 and connect directly instead of having two wasteful circuits (a car charger which probably has an LM2805 in it, and then another non-switched, highly inefficient dropper in the Nokia power-to-USB converter). Your external battery will last longer, there will be only one heat source (LM2805, and if you want more efficiency you can go for a switched voltage dropper), and you won't need 5 different points of connection.

Or you can at least avoid the car charger alltogether, Nokia's converter will do the job by itself, although it might melt if connected to 12V (depends how much current external battery can pull out), but you can offset that to a normal wall-charger output with a simple zener diode before it...

If I was travelling to or from the states I would honestly not pull that thing out mid-flight If you don't get tackled for "building a bomb" they might think you're trying to hack the plane or something

This just in on the headline news...guys gets shot for carrying around a phone. Reports state that the man was frantically screaming to employee's that "it's a freaking n nine hundred," incidentally some random dude screamed Allah Akbar at the same moment, when he reached out to press a button on the gadget, the cops (thinking he meant its freaking 900 tons of TNT) then reacted by pulling out their assault rifles...the rest I must say was simply a tragic incident

On the other hand Cool concept man

I know , I know but that monkey costs 30 pounds as well

This is just stuff I got around the house....put everything together for an (almost) portable power source....ehehe

Well you say that... but a lawyer specialising in anti-terror law? now THAT's pricey....
