so i have a car navigation system which came with a car charger. it has a micro-usb-plug.

now i was wondering if i can use it to charge my n900 in the car as well, because i dont want to buy another car charger for the n900 if i dont have to.

i made a picture of the original n900 wall-charger and the car charger of my navigation system, take a look (nokia-charger on the top, car-charger of navi-system bottom)

i guess i can use it because the output of the car-charger is lower than the nokia wall-charger, but i'm not really sure... please someone enlighten me!

Is it safe to plug in your N900 to this - Probably. The micro-USB has a standard pin out for power, ground, and data. Unless the makers of this system are criminally stupid you probably won't hurt your N900. But notice I said probably, the risk is yours.

Will it charge your N900? Maybe. The N900 is more finicky than most devices in what it will accept a charge from. Read this forum for more info about aftermarket chargers.

thanks, that sounds promising.
the maker of the navi is a well known, more or less high-quality brand, so i think i'll try it.
my initial thought was that in the worst case, its not going to do anything to the n900 (neither charge or damage), because the output is lower than the wall chargers output.... but who knows.

at least you didnt tell me its going to explode
