Until I can afford a bluetooth keyboard for the N800 (couple of months I'm hoping), I need some other way to take notes in a meeting with my N800. Ideally, I'd like something that would let me just scribble in the notes with the stylus, rather than trying to do text conversion or having to type. None of the current memo apps seem to support a "limitless" sheet for sketching/scribbling on. Is there one I've missed or that's available somewhere other than at the main repository?

TIA,
Ewan

There's "horizon". Its user interface is a bit quirky, mind you.
Here:

Homepage's here:

Don't worry, it works fine on the N800.

This sounds excellent, but after installing it, it will not launch. Any help?
Thanks

I've felt that devices like the IT should really have accelerometers/gyros inside, so that one could have tilt aware applications. For example, you could work with a much larger virtual scratchpad simply by tilting the screen to pan. I think the success of the Wii has really been a strong indication that the computer world could really use some new ways of interacting with programs beyond the text entry device + pointing device. WIMP is getting really tired when you consider the level of sophistication of the modern computer.

I think you should look at ' Xournal '. It may have been ported for the N800 already. It works rather well on my Nokia 770 with latest OS. It is good for taking notes ( sketching, doodling and scribbling allowed ) easily with the stylus. Good Luck.

No, sorry. I uninstalled it because Maemopad+ and Xournal serve my needs better.

When I go to Maemo, I see Xournal listed with "Missing Install". Forgive the probably newbie question, but do I just DL the file from the homepage? If so, then what do I do with it?

TIA,
Ewan

I got Xournal from the old application list:
http://maemo.org/maemowiki/ApplicationCatalog2006
(it's the fifth item in the list). It installs fine from Etrunko's repository.

Mind you, Xournal is not an unlimited scroller (Ahh! Newton's Notepad again), but it apparently does store the writing as digital ink. Somewhere...

Well, if I have to do the same thing as Maemopad+ where after a couple lines I have to open a sub-node to keep going on, then it probably isn't worth installing.

Hopefully someone will realize the utility of such an app, and perhaps find a way to patch/mod one of the current apps to remove the length limitation...

Probably not, as all Xournal/Gournal/Jarnal variations are modeled on Microsoft's Journal, with its stupid/******ed page-based interface.

That's the one thing I never get from Open Source copies of proprietary software: Why do they always copy the dumb stuff as well?

Newton's Notepad is the only digital ink notetaker I know of that is truly limitless (not exactly: it's only limitless vertically).
