Can't install IM services, eg. MSN, Facebook.

I've tryed to install pidgin protocols plugin and pidgin extra protocols, but i only get a msg that i'm missing a package. (upstart-job)
What is this, and where do i get the package.

I have flashed my N900 today.
I used to have haze, but i can't find and download that...

Well, i can't seem to find a solution to this problem..
It's a bit frustrating.
I'm a complete linux noob.
Is there anyone who can find out where this package should be located, and what it contains? Maby i can copy it from another user and make it work..

Had the same problem.... it frustrated the s**t out of me, tried EVERYTHING and still nothing.... everything worked except the missing package.

After about 7 reflashing attempts I tried something different...
WHICH WORKED:
Flash the device with the OLDEST firmware you can find!
IT WORKS!
you just update to the latest fw from the device.

CHEERS!
Post if it works for you as well!

OK, here is how it worked for me:
1. deacivate the extra devel repository
2. now you can install version 0.7 from the extra-repositorys
3. reboot
I think the missing package is in the next firmware?

Hi, I have the same problem with maemo-pc-connectivity about missing this upstart-job package. I tried all your version of flash image and also crazler 's advice but it did not work. Any idea please, I have been googling about 2 days and it frustrates me somehow. My problem was that I have a QT program running nice in the simulator already. However, when I export it as a .deb file, using fremantle-armel structure and copy to my N900, it cries about incompatible installation file. Then I think I have to connect my phone to the computer through pc-connectivity in order to deploy my application directly to my phone but then I got this upstart-job problem.
Any idea please!!

Crazler, that did not work. upstart-job could not be found after disabling extra devel.

I hope it returns to the repositories soon...

Worked like a charm for me, even without the reboot. Cheers for that!

I have the same issue, but caused by a slightly different thing.

I got annoyed with the network errors, so I disabled MSN and Facebook.

Then (when I could be bothered), I uninstalled the Pidgin protocols.

Now they are still listed as accounts under "My Availability", but they don't appear in "Accounts", I therefore am unable to delete them.

I tried to reinstall, and then remove them, and that's when I noticed the problem.

I'm guessing no-one has a solution to the missing package, but does anyone know how I can remove the MSN and Facebook accounts, so I don't keep getting the "unable to connect to one or more accounts" every few mins?

Ok, scratch that!

Jennifr & Crazler are right, that method works fine, I just failed to follow the instructions!

When installing 0.7, do it through the network category, don't do a search.
