I want to keep my at&t connection, so I'm keeping my joikuspot enabled nokia e71. My plan is to connect to the web with my n900 using the e71 as a modem via joikuspot. This would require to setup an ad-hoc connection (just like a regular computer running debian -- and I've had problems connecting to the e71's joikuspot with a regular pc running ubuntu -- the pc had a usb wifi dongle). Would the n900 have troubles getting connected to the web via the wifi ad-hoc joikuspot connection on the e71? Or was the PC having trouble with the ad-hoc connection to the e71 via joikuspot basically the fault of the incompatible usb dongle? If n900 has problems with this kind of thing, then how's tmobile's 3g?

With Joikuspot running on the Nokia E71 you do NOT need to put the N900 and the E71 on an ad-hoc wireless network configuration.

Once Jaikuspot is started (and configured, of course) on your E71, it will "announce" (unless set up not to do it) the network ID, and your N900 should pick it up as a normal, regular WiFi network in infrastructure mode. Select it, the E71's jaikuspot will also provide the IP address and you will be able to surf the web from your N900 using your E71 as a gateway/modem with your E71's 3G as your internet connection.

Hope this helps, I use it a lot, exactly in that setup.

Kind regards.

i have the ad-hoc connection problem with n900. i am running joikuspot in my n97 with 3g connection and it works perfectly with other phones and laptops but when i connect n900 with n97s wifi connection enabled by joikuspot it gives problem, as the n900 is connected via ad-hoc connection, the connection would be active but there will be no data transfer but connection remains connected.
so if any could help me out with n900s ad-hoc problem.
i need to get it work.
thank u
