Canola seems to be the best media related app for nokia tablets, what I crave most is a way to use the fantastic UI and compatibility across the range with MPD (music player daemon).

I have limited knowledge of what is required, but since 'media streamer' supports upnp control of a renderer and mpd-upnp seems to be coming along here:

And canola has upnp streaming support... maybe upnp control of a renderer is possible?

I imagine writing plugins for canola that work on the various platforms is another kettle of fish... but where might I start?

To me it seems passing commands to mpd on sockets is fairly straightforward, where to begin?

To clarify, my goal is control of an MPD server on the same network as the tablet device... primarily focusing on the 770 and n800. No streaming from etc... just reading the MPD database, then passing commands to the MPD server.

Any pointers greatly appreciated.

EDIT: By the way, if I have missed the point about what exactly a upnp 'renderer' is please forgive me... being optimistic.

Have moved on to mmpc... to which I have added finger scrolling from the libmokoui lib. Works quite nicely on both the N800 and 770... still tweaking settings to get it right.

Any one have an old copy of moko-fingerscroll.c? The two recent copies I have talk about a previously impliamented synthetic button click only on mouse up... a feature I would love.

Is there any interest in a release of mmpc with finger scrolling btw?
