Iphone was a revolutionary device when it came out, it was a unique phone and very consumer friendly and smooth.

Anroid is interesting and brings new things on the table, it is an evolution though.

N900/Maemo i would call is revolutionary ..with the maemo platform itself being an open source and in that regards very unique, browser one of the best, multitasking etc ....BUT the mobile computer is short of being a phone.

CAN ALL PUT THRU A LIST WHICH NOTES THE SHORT COMMING OF THIS DEVICE BEING A PHONE SAY ANYTHING FROM SMS TO MUSIC PLAYER ETC BUT APART FROM POTRAIT MODE AND THE FEW APPLICATIONS, PLEASE

Thank You

Why would an issue with the music player be a 'short comming of this device being a phone' and Portrait'Landscape mode wouldn't?

I used to have a Samsung and what a very nice phone it was.

Now I have a n900 and do you know what it is a very nice phone too.

Like I can text folk on it, talk to folk on it same old same old in one sense.

What puzzles me is how on earth Nokia managed to get my PC on my phone as well.

Yes it is an brilliant device with a few tweeks needed but there is one thing about this phone/mid that i love and don't think you will get anywhere else and that is the fact that you just don't know what is around the corner for it. I mean ive owned a lot of phones in the past and basically you take it out the box and that's it what you see is what you get other than stability firmware updates. But with the n900 you never know whats gonna happen (in a good way) i mean we got PR1.2, Flash 10, Meego and big features like voice guided navigation. All these things and more are causing loads of hype/posts and while i would love them all to be properly announced with dates i don't mind the guessing and not knowing. at the end of the day i done my research before i brought the N900 and loved it from day one. We got programs being written by people for no other reason other than to help out fellow users ie FMMS not for money like iphones. yes the N900 is a great device and for me will only get better as we move forward. As for short comings well

Call divert (app available)
ussd (app available and soon full support)

Sorry if i sound bias but like i say ive owned a lot of handsets and none have come close to the N900.

Which are both... while great, destined to be a "designed by committee" type of affair where the best ideas, if worded slightly wrong or not pushed heavy enough by the idea person will invariably get overlooked.

It's not perfect at all. I like the ability to add to the brainstorm and help find bugs... but do any metrics exist to show how many ideas have gone from the brainstorm to some form of being an actualized project or program?

Just wondering.

I do not mean to sound like a jerk here, but I think you have a brainstorm for the site.

I'm curious too. Would love to see how much Nokia listens.

I know the community listens already... fMMS, The One Ring/DialCentral, YellowNotes and a few others come to mind real quick that show that the community has the ability to push out some quality work.

Look at Opera - it's a "hobbyist" project and it's pretty darn nice.
