Hey guys here is a scenario,

I'm at my friends house on there wireless and there are a bunch of windows computer shares (anonymous access)with movies etc that I want to copy.

What is the easiest way for me to leech from them to my n900?

I have tried wizard mounter but there is one fundamental problem with it.. you have to have a username and password (ie if it's anonymous you can't enter blank blank).

So putting it out to the community, what would you do?

that's good a good reply (you can also do it by enabling windows media sharing in windows media player 11) but, I can't expect my friends to install tiversity or configure media sharing just because I want to copy files off there computers when everybody else with a laptop can. N900 is suppost to be powerful and I can see there are cifs/smb libraries available so there must be an app to do this somewhere (other than mounting it via commandline which removes the ability to browse shares)

You use too much «have» and «must» words. nobody have to you anything, you can always write your application that can do it, or port existing app to maemo.

Why not use the VNC client?

http://my-maemo.com/software/applica...37&fldAuto=802

Enable the "memory card" (or something like that) checkbox in the setup before you connect, and you will be able to copy data from the HDD to your N900 over the network, as you control it remotely from the N900. Sweet! I've used it myself a few times - not as fast as USB of course, but useful nonetheless.

VNC would require me to install vnc server on every computer at every house i go to visit. I have found an alternative I will run a copy of smb4k or smbnetfs inside my debian desktop on my phone. Hopefully the copying speeds won't be to slow. I'll post back to let you guys know
