I've been using Canola for awhile on my 770, now running Beta2. I've never liked the fact that it autoscans my card, as it's such a system hog. I'd rather implicitly tell it to scan when I know there are changes to the database. Can I just pull canola-conf out of all the init scripts to effectively disable the autoscan, while still allowing me to scan when I want and allowing Canola to otherwise operate correctly?

Also, I had a little trouble upgrading to the beta2. I added the new repository and had the application manager do the upgrade. After that, when the system would boot and canola-conf would start scanning, it would bog the whole system to the point of a rebooting. So, after booting up I raced into application manager and managed to uninstall the thing before it went crazy. After that I completely reinstalled... but now things haven't been the same. It decides to rescan the MMC at seemingly random times, and it seems like my system is just not as stable after that - more random system reboots and bog downs.

I uninstalled once again, but noticed that the canola applet was still there, even after the uninstall. The buttons did nothing, but it was still there. Also, the Configure Canola icon was still in my menu. This prompted some digging around, and I discovered that /usr/bin was still full of all kinds of canola stuff, and that the /etc init scripts for canola were all still in place. I removed all those. The applet still started, and I'm sure there was still more canola junk scattered all over my system.

Upon reinstalling after this, it goes through the whole process, but right as it finishes the install says that Canola install was unsuccessful... but, it was, and it's there, and it runs.

In short, how can I do a clean, complete uninstall of this thing?

I had the same uninstall issue happen with my n800.

That will help with removing it from the app list. To completely remove it you may have to:
reinstall
stop the canola service (in xterm, as root, find the file with the canola name in /etc/init.d/ and type /etc/init.d/canolaname stop)
uninstall
remove the apps from the list using the above link

when i tried to uninstall canola from my N800, i noticed the icons left in the extras folder. when i clicked on it, canola STILL ran! eventhough app manager says it successfully uninstalled, it still ran! That means it never got uninstalled....Canola does appear as an installable app now in app manager. So how can i REALLY uninstall canola?

Yes, I know about the post. But the app still remains in the N800. I stopped the service, uninstalled. The icons were left in the Extras, I clicked on it and Canola still ran! That means it never got uninstalled in the first place! Deleting the icons from the Extras folder won't make the software uninstall, right?
