Strange. I've never had this problem until checking just now. o.O
It even launches in landscape when opening via Power Menu or Application List...
Will look into the matter.

What if you start entering a number on your homescreen and then slide in the keyboard? It should go to portrait mode.

When i start typing the number, the dialpad opens. As soon as I close my keyboard, it switches to portrait

Gah. Never mind. It seems launching the phone now checks for the device orientation before launching the phone application.

I guess you are right, when I restarted the phone holding it in portrait position the phone application launched in portrait mode!!!!
I'm sure it is a bug, what does position of starting the phone has to do with the orientation? Turning Control within phone application is useless!
