Hey all

Since I have come to Ireland for the summer from the USA I have noticed that not much of anything works on wifi with my n900. No widgets (omweather, facebook, ap,), no email, and Nokia applications, Ovi, and System software update repositories WILL fail to refresh unless there is a sim connection. I had to wait for me to get my sim with o2 in order for all of the above items worked once I got here. Now every morning I can only get my email to automatically refresh when I manually connect to my 02 network. When on wifi (eircom for me) here in Ireland, it will not work for me. I too am looking for a solution to this. I have tried messing with the ports on my router and still can't get anything working. As stated before though, the other day I was in a local booky here watching some dog races when I connected to their eircom wifi, then suprisingly I just started automatically recieving emails. So this leads me to believe that it is not the n900 but settings within the wifi routers or ISP settings. Sorry I can't help more, but this is what I can say with certainty. Can anyone elaborate or help in anyway with this issue? I know a bunch of different threads here with different problems that seem to stem from this one issue and I am sure that many n900 owners would be very much appreciative. Thank you in advance for your time and patience.

Thats strange. Maybe your n900 has an alternative firmware preventing you to get a full-phone without sim card

Maybe you could try flashing the rootfs with the global firmware

The thread title is seriously misleading if you managed to connect to WiFi outside of your own network.

This sounds like you need to fix your router and nothing to do with your N900. Typical troubleshooting approach is to do a hard reset of your router and start there. Read the documentation for it to get to see as much logs as possible.

Also i can detect othen netwroks in my area. So where the password information is stored .U know every time we open our network we dont type every time the password . Where what info is stored? The N900 relevant info is stored in Settings for the most part. The router settings are stored on the router.

Is your home network an N-only or 5Ghz-only network? The N900 can only see and connent to B or G wireless networks in the 2.4Ghz band. Most wireless netowkrs are set to B or G in the 2.4Ghz range, but since most new laptops for the last year or so can do wireless N and 5Ghz, some networks are configured only for one or both of those settings, making it work with your laptop but not your N900.
