Hey guys i've been thinking of buying an android phone seeing as i have money to spare. i'm not selling my n900 (obviously it's my baby xD).
What would you guys suggest? i was thinking about the HTC Desire. would really love an incredible but 1. too expensive 2. need it unlocked with no branding like verizon or something on it.
I'm from Malta btw. anyone knows of android market is fully supported here?
so...what are your opinions. dont know yet if i will buy one soon but android is getting all hot now

Maybe, but there are things to consider about how an Android phone would match up with the N900 too, right?

I've been thinking about this myself. I have an N900 (tmobile) and a Touch Pro (sprint.) The two are very similar phones, except the N900 blows the Touch Pro out of the water in every way, shape, and form. (For me, anyhow. XD) I need to have two ways of getting a data connection in an emergency, and am on Sprint for a while anyway; I've been thinking of replacing my Touch Pro with a hero or the new Evo 4g, or a Palm Pixi.

The way I see it, any phone with the same form factor as my N900 is going to be utterly "outclassed" -- at least to me. Hey, I'm a linux guy. I can make my N900 do almost anything I want; there's no way Android or WebOS is going to be able to compete, but since I need two devices, they should have other lesser benefits. Otherwise, it just becomes a competition and I keep wanting to leave the other device at home, defeating the purpose of having a backup. (And dedicated phone.)

To my mind, it would have to either just be form factor (smaller or longer battery life for emergencies) or form factor (non-slider.) I'd lean more toward something like the Pixi or, well, anything Blackberry-esque for that; you're not going to beat the N900's screen for a bit, so you might as well have a single-hand keyboard, right?

I'm really not sure, though. It might be better to get one that works just as a phone with modem abilities; nothing's going to match Xchat for me.

I think it depends on what you want on the Android platform. For example, is rooting it and installing custom ROMs on it important to you? Then you should look at the phones to see if there's a big enough community to do it. It seems some Android phones it's easily possible, while others it hasn't been done yet.

If you don't care then you probably want one with the latest Android features. The Nexus One is a good choice simply because

a) it's unlocked (fits your requirements)
b) it's unbranded (just Google and maybe HTC on there)

However it's GSM only. The benefit of the Nexus One is, it's Google's testbed. It'll always get the newest OS first (or until Google releases a new Nexus). While with others you get to wait until your service provider gives it to you or you have to hack around (going back to my first point about choosing one that has a community that enables that).

The desires screen is bad. might say 800x480, but each pixel is not rgb so there is annoying colour leaks on the edge of contrasting areas. the Android + sense combo is the least intuitive os ever. Maemo looks easy in comparison.

@Nipperoid: I didn't know that. In fact i heard the screen was excellent its amoled isn't it? I dont really understand but arent the colours supposed to be like really saturated or something.
Yeah i'm holding off now for a few months but i'm sure i'll buy a new device this year. Don't know if i'll wait for meego or not, maybe not i'll just hope the community will bring a good meego build for n900. N900 still rocks (well maemo community does not nokia)

lol dunno why for some time i thought x10 ran symbian. Well, it's android and SE have placed their custom UI right? its nice im gonna check for some prices. are pro and mini better than the original?
