ok so after reading 2000 post out of a possible 2million all with old and conflicting answers and pages spread everywhere and also not knowing where to look i thought id ask a few questions
iv had the fone a few weeks and only just started having a play with it
i have followed this to install and overclock and is working fine
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...582#post595582
and have even set to starving and is working fine atm although havent done much testing as of yet
my questions are
-to save battery is it better to run min at 125mhz or 250mhz than 500mhz and how much battery is saved? is it worth it..?
Why don't u try it out?? Use battery monitoring apps like Battery graph or batteryeye and see how the performance and battery life changes. Everyone uses their phone differently so it's best to do a test for yourself, it's not hard or anything, just let your phone run for a whole day doing what you normally do, and switch to a different overclock/underclock and try it out.
-is it noticeably slower running min at 125mhz than 500mhz?
-what is the best way to charge the battery for it to last longer eg. run it to dead then charge or 1-5% charge or just whenever?
From what i've read for the Nokia N900 battery saving tips, it's best to charge it whenever you can. Not too much though, but just charge it when it's depleted to a low percentage. It's not good to let it die down to 0% and charge, that's only good certain types of battery, and Nokia N900's battery isn't this type.
-i have seen alot of ppl showing there own voltage profiles and skipping certain frequencies how do i set/change that?
Did u really search??? Ur asking a lot of questions that were answered in most of the common topics....
-what programs are good for testing stability and for how long?
From what i know, there isn't any. You have to test it by urself, just like i answered for ur first question. Stability isn't much of an issue though, just stick to the advices that other people gave and u'll be fine. It's better to follow the results posted by others than to try to overclock or underclock to an extreme value. To be honest, u won't get much difference in overclocking or underclocking, at least that's the conclusion I got from my experiment and testing.
-recommended apps, programs for oc?
Again, i'm sure u didn't search on this. It's very easy. I only just did it 4 or 5 days ago.
-recommended apps, programs for powersaving?
-and unrelated to oc and powersaving what are some good general apps out there?
- i read something about a possible 9 desktops??
---- and wiil having more desktops active use more power?
It's called Desktop Activity, download it from the APP Manager.

There isn't a setting for Cateroize, at least i don't think there is. It just automatically sorts anything you download and installed by itself. The only thing you can do however is reorganize the apps the way you want, i.e manually. But there isn't any major settings to it.

EDIT:
In fact i'll help u out even more, read these 2 posts, that's all you need on overclocking.

I have just overclocked mine for the first time and all seems fine. However, following the wiki. I need to reload the settings everytime I turn my phone off, is there a way to save the settings I am happy with (that appear to be working)
