After the update to PR1.2 I got the following error when trying to use Mplayer to liste a mp3 file:

Code:
[AO OSS] audio_setup: Can't open audio device /dev/dsp: No such file or directory
AO: [alsa] 44100Hz 2ch s16le (2 bytes per sample)
[AO_ALSA] Write error: Broken pipe 0.000  0/  0  ??%  ??%  ??,?% 0 0
[AO_ALSA] Trying to reset soundcard.
With the default player everything is fine, but I really prefer the flexibility of mplayer.

Thank you very much in advance!

Take it out of Silent mode, but this is one of the problems with one of my earlier methods for allowing sound to be played in Silent mode. Ah well, I blame Nokia for still not having documented the policy system and keeping it closed source.

Anyway, edit /usr/share/policy/etc/current/pulse/xpolicy.conf and append the following:
[stream]
exe = mplayer
group = player

Alternately, remove and reinstall MPlayer.

And you should use the option -ao pulse to make volume control work properly.

Thank you very much for the answers. The xpolicy.conf file is already updated, as I reinstalled mplayer few days ago after it stop to work.

When using the -ao pulse option the error is notappearing. but the sound is not there ...
I tried to use the general profile instead of the silent one without any luck.

So now the permissions seem to be fine. the pulse option is passed, but no sound ... strage -)

Thanks again
