Hi! Was offered to buy a n900 cheap but it is a UK version without native והצ on the HW keyboard and I live in Sweden so I wonder if there are alternat ways of getting these caracters on the HW keys.

you might try getting them via the blue arrow + ctrl

this should bring up a few special characters on screen, some of which are diacritical marks only (like ^ or ¨ or °). You can tap on them and then press the letter on the keyboard, so ¨ and a will get you ה.

The only thing I don't know is if all the diacritical marks you need are available. There's an application somewhere, though, to customize this pop-up keyboard.

ok so it might not be worth it then... probably should go for a Swedish unit instead with native והצ on the HW keyboard.

If you don't want to change the actual letters that read in the buttons, you can just go to Settings and change the Keyboard layout to Suomi, Svenska.

Exactly, you just have to remember where the buttons in Swedish keyboard are.

Or just use the popup-dialog to get special characters.. or stick to A-Z as I tend to do The location for them is stupid and using cursor keys will be behind fn+ combinations.

or you could partially redefine your keyboard and associate for example the sequence shift-alt-N to dead_diaeresis. typing it will alter the key you press after it, like in הן.

the file to edit is
Code:
/usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/nokia_vndr/rx-51
in mine, I have edited the fourth column of "english_base" section.

these are the accents I use most:
Code:
    key <AB04>	{ [ v,  V,  slash,  dead_acute	] };
    key <AB05>	{ [ b,  B,  backslash,	dead_grave	] };
    key <AB06>	{ [ n,  N,  quotedbl,	dead_diaeresis	] };
    key <SPCE>	{ [ space,  space,  at,  dead_tilde	] };
so for example typing a space after the dead_tilde gives me the tilde (quite necessary on a unix machine!). but I also have |%{}[] and there's enough space for things one does not really need...

this works with the most recent firmware (10.2010.19-1).
