Okay, I have a very frustrating and weird problem. Please read all the way through to fully understand my issues. I am spending the summer in Ireland and until yesterday have not been able to update "anything" while connected to wifi...namely: can't send and recieve email, cant refresh 3 repositories( all Nokia & Ovi repos... the maemo ones are fine) can't update omweather...etc. All of these needed a connection through my mobile provider. (browsing the internet is fine through wifi however)
Yesterday I have FINALLY solved the issue, or so I thought. I originally thought it was my ISP but yesterday I went into the settings on my n900, and into "internet connections", I followed the steps to get to the "advanced" sttings of my wifi connection (which is eircom/ ireland). Within the "ip adresses" tab I noticed that by default the boxes to automatically retrieve the ip adresses as well as dns servers automatically, were both checked. I went and unchecked the "auto retrieve the dns" box and manually put my ISP's DNS's in. To my surprise, everything was working fine. My email immediately started coming in over wifi and I was able to fully use the application manager, as well as update my Omweather!... Everything was fine again. ( I never had any issues in america over wifi).
Well, my new problem is that as soon as I left the house and returned, then attempting to reconnect to my wifi, I can't send and recieve email's again as well as the rest of my issues. I immediately went into settings and saw that the DNS's that I placed there manually before were indeed still there, but I was still having problems. It was finally solved when I actually deleted the dns' I previously put in and simply re-input them and clicked save again, even though they were already there!? I don't understand this. Now everything is fine as long as I stay connected to my wifi; if I at any time disconnect even to save battery then I have to go through the process of deleting atleast the last # of the dns #'s under settings and just typing it back in then clicking "save", then magically everything is fine again... email can be used, repos can be refreshed, and all widgets as well can be refreshed.
Can someone please, please help me to not have to manually input the dns of my isp everytime I connect to my home wifi in order to properly use the features of my n900!? Thank you very much in advance
