Hi there,

as a N97 user I wonder, will there be an update path for this device to Maemo or MeeGo? When googling I see a lot of folks who wonder the same thing. It would be so great. And the N97 has a real compass what the N900 does not have, thus has better navigation.

Thanx

It is extremely unlikely that any Symbian device will be given an upgrade path to MeeGo, doubly so considering that no Symbian device currently meets the minimum hardware specs being set for MeeGo.

Nokia has said nothing nor do I expect they will, and it is unlikely a community supported port will happen.

N97 is probably the worst device ever hardware wise.

Please compare the specs. If you don't know how to interprete those, don't make polls with the option "yes" to chose.

yes, as a former n97 owner, it was pretty horrible. id rather have my fingers used as toothpicks for zombies, than to go back to that thing.

i myself have just recently upgraded from the N97 (my first "smart phone") to the n900.

i cant believe nokia are legally alowed to sell phones that crap. hah.

paid $800 for it brand new, sold it for $300 4 months later.

I would say the lack of a dedicated gpu, would be the issue with trying to port maemo/meego to the n97....and why would anyone even want to bother trying to port it?

N97 is one of the better stock phones idiots in suits offer the oblivious masses at crappy provider stores.

I still can't believe it has been marketed as "flagship device" by Nokia not too long ago, and obviously enough people fell for it.

Yeah well people are stupid and will believe anything. Just look at how many threads you see saying the N900 doesn't have this or that.

Do you guys do any research...at all???

Most simply don't, even though they have tools at hand, their ancestors would have killed for. For them the web simply consists of Facebook and similar "colorful" activities. Post-information society (PIS).
