why dont you just extend from the composite end of the standard tv out cable?
composite cabling and adapters should be easy to get hold of!

To Quote ive done what this guy mentiones i just extended the composite side male to male with a 5 meter cable so i could run it through the carpet and have it hidden under the carpet and have the connection point nearer somewhere i sit down !

If I recall correctly, the wiring Nokia used for the N900 TV out is not standard (probably put ground somewhere unusual), so you will need the cable that came with your N900. From there, RCA extension cables are very common.

Does the extension of the cable cause any image instability or is it still steady?

If you really can't find male-to-female RCA cables, look for individual or grouped female-to-female couplers and standard, male-to-male patch cables.

Note: I've (sadly) never even visited Australia, and I've no idea if Cable Chick is a good source. The site was simply a highly ranked hit on a quick Google search.

ipod video out cables are non-standard IIRC. Try connecting the colors backwards (i.e. yellow for audio, white for video).

The 3.5mm tv out on the n900 is the same as a 3.5mm camcorder cable. So if you can get a 3.5mm male-to-female camcorder cable that is another way to go.

Are you sure? I've tried that with a Sony DV camcorder cable, but it didn't work. There a chance the problem was on that particular TV set, though.

I've lost all cables that came with my N900... :-(

I've also had a similar problem with the cable that came with my old VAIO (the old ones had the same port). I've found that if I unplug it just a hair, it works. Since I haven't lost my original video cable I don't care enough to really test it or look for a non-Sony cable.
