So today I received my 'repaired' N900.

I had the bright spots on my screen (two of them) and also the keyboard lining felt like it was falling apart (making a creaking noise every time I'd hit a key).

So I sent it into Nokia Care, and I looked at when I got it back.

Well, besides flashing the device (Oops, I forgot to when I sent it in) and removing my screen protector and sticking a huge OVI sticker on the front, it really looks like they haven't done anything but tighten down the keyboard a tad.

I still have the very slight scratches on the screen, and while the bright spots were NOT there when I first booted it up, they re-appeared after restoring my back up.

So after having to suffer without my N900 for a week+ (which kudos to their turn around rate, though it doesn't really look like they repaired much, they only had it for one day then sent it back...) I still have the same problem with the screen, plus I had to buy a new screen protector.

So this begs the question, did I get a new LCD and the motherboard has 'hot spots' that mess with it? It did feel rather warm in my pocket at times today. I specifically removed my wallet out of the same pocket so NOTHING else was in there (I was originally thinking that pressure on specific parts of the phone had caused the bright spots.)

Or did they actually get my phone, see nothing wrong with the screen, tweak the keyboard a bit and just say "Fixed Display" on the return note. Which by the way they included a $10 OVI Visa card... which is kind of cool, I guess.

I wonder if I left it off for a day or two if the spots would 'disappear' again. In which case we could narrow it down to an heat issue. Of course even if it is a heat issue, what could we possibly do to fix it, without getting a redesigned phone and / or all get our LCDs replaced?

P.S. if the Mods wish to merge this with the other Bright Spots thread, I wouldn't mind, but thought it'd be better served to see if other people had their N900s 'repaired' in this way.

I would like some answers as well before I send my N900 in for repair. Nokia approved a warranty repair but is it worth not having the N900 for over a week if it is an unfixable issue? As far as heat, I got 2 bright spots during normal usage. I have had my N900 since Feb and didnt overclock until the end of June. Maybe Quake 3 online bouts cause heat issues. I carry my N900 in a hip holster to prevent pressure so I am leaning more towards an LCD issue.

It would be worth sending my N900 in if I was gauranteed a new screen or unit. I don't want to waste my time.

What do you all think, to send, or not to send, that is the question....

what do u mean by bright spots ?
do u mean the uper right end of the device ? or burned pixels ?
i've had mine since december and got no bright spots ( at least they way u discribe them ) . if u'r case is not the above 3 i said , i suppose ur device has a fault , its not a design flaw since not every1 has it .

one bright spot here. first time i saw it was after oc, but it was there before, i just taught was a scratch.. imho we should compare at least the positions: mine is lower right corner in landscape mode. pic will help for the position.

It's an LC display. You cannot rule out dead pixels or bright spots completely. There's are tolerance threshold how many defects in which positions may occur to be still used in devices.
Some spots can be reanimated by displaying special animated patterns for some time. Google will reveal some websites with animated GIFs for this.
