A few minutes earlier i tapped to find the main showing "(no applications)". I had installed the osx theme and conky previous to this happening though im not sure what actuallly caused this problem.

Could someone please offer some advice to solve this. The missing applications have also resulted in the desktop shortcuts to stop working.. i can only open the browser by using site specefic shortcuts from the desktop.

I have tried rebooting, and poweringoff for a while and then switching on. I'd like to stay clear of reflashing for the moment.. unless it was a last resort.

You could reinstall all applications to restore the .desktop files.
List all .desktop files you have by (open terminal using CTRL+SHIFT+X)
Code:
cat /var/lib/dpkg/info/*.list | grep "*.desktop"
then maybe someone can at least give you the icons so you don't have to reinstall apps.

I'd be happy if some1 could give me the code to uninstall apps through xterm and the code to create a backup or to call up the backup manager.

Code:
cat /var/lib/dpkg/info/*.list | grep "*.desktop" >> /home/user/MyDocs/list.txt
then copy it off using mass storage.

I'd like you to know that not only the apps are missing from the main menu, but the whole category structure of catorise is missing as well. So what's the use of simply copying the icons? The app shortcuts on the desktops are visible with their icons, but clicking doesn't open up the app - it remains unresponsive.

*Problem Solved*
I opened the extras repo index on the browser using a link and clicked on an app. This brought up the app manager and i was able to uninstall the theme ilvisteel OS-X. That solved my problem.

How did that theme get into extras if it had a bug?

And MohammedAG, thanks for trying to help buddy, u wer th only one who turned up =)
