...I'm looking for a more reliable mail client than Claws or the system default.

New version is released, but now I can't upgrade cause fails 'stop' action %)

Sorry, it's known bug. It was fixed in 2010W31-0maemo6 version.
If you have problem with installing new versions or removing old then clean qmfserver dpkg scripts:

rm -f /var/lib/dpkg/info/qmfserver.p*
Currently qmfmail doesn't have usable interface for maemo platform. It's only for testing working server and third-party plugins on armel.

any more info on what it might look like ? Planned features ? Roadmap/timelines ? Just wondering.

I'm also interested in replacing Modest. Claws is too finger unfriendly to be really usable on my N900.
