I can't get my N900 to do shuffle when listening to music with the media player. Is this common to all N900s or is there a problem with mine (well there are a million problems with mine but I mean this point specifically)?

When I select shuffle it always plays the tracks in the exact same sequence. I think this is the case even if I switch off the phone.

So let us say I have a playlist of 4 songs. It determines the shuffle sequence as 2, 4, 1, 3. No matter what it always plays in that exact same sequence. So effectively it is not shuffling, just playing in a sequence that does not change. Playing repeatedly as 2, 4,1, 3 does not equate to random anymore than playing repeatedly in 1, 2,3,4 is.

This is quite annoying because let us say I am listening to a list of 100 songs. If I am on the 40th song to play and go back and select a track which I have listened to which played 10th for example it will then play all the following songs in the same sequence after that. So to have any chance of listening to a song that has not played already I have to skip through the next 30 songs.

Real annoying. I am now having to use my blackberry as media player because of this.

I don't know if Media Box has the same issue but it has a fundamental issue which means I can't even use it to beging with - it does not see my m3u playlists.

So is there any other media player I can use that doesn't have this lack of random?

And is it just my N900 media player that has this problem? I know the media player is bad but surely Nokia could not possibly have designed a media player that does not have a real shuffle mode. If they have is there a way to fix it? I guess the built in media player is one of the closed aspects of the device so there is nothing that can be done to tweak it. Correct?

Do you have PR 1.2 installed?

I much prefer Mediabox and it's shuffle is completely random.

Yes. Version 10.2010.19-1 isn't it? Is this a bug that came with PR 1.2 or is it one that was fixed with it? Because it is not fixed on mine.

Please log in there and make usage case where you show that itīs not working. Pretty weird because when it was marked as fixed bugzilla sent mail to people who have voted/commented/reported that bug to verify that itīs fixed.

Media Box seems unusable for me. It does not see my m3u playlists so I have to create playlists in mediabox. As far as I can tell the only way to do this is to place a folder on a shelf then add the shelf to playlist. However, when I add the folder to shelf it also adds the album art. So when I play the playlist it treats album art as a track and so I am left with nothing playing from time to time until I press skip. Which is a problem a million times worse than the built in media player not having shuffle.

In the N900 media player it shows untitled album which has all Nokia ringtones etc.. which is very annoying as when i play all songs with shuffle option it plays ringtones too which is really frustrating..

is there any way to remove this from the media player but not delete from the device?

Hmm. Something is not right if ring-tones show up in N900s own media player. To check what is going on i would recommend installing tracker cfg from devel, but then again itīs devel and be careful . (ring-tones should be in nowatchdirectory, read help from apps top menu)

I installed trackercfg app & under Watches in Nowatchdirectory added the foll:

/home/user/MyDocs/.sounds/Ringtones
/home/user/MyDocs/.images

And clicked on Save option & then restart tracker option..

However, after that too Ringtones continue to be shown in Media player & wallpapers in Photos app..

Where am I going wrong, please confirm?

P.s. I even tried the foll. command in x-term:

tracker-processes --hard-reset

However, it still continues to be shown.. Kindly confirm..
