Hi everybody!

Can anyone port '' WhatsApp'' to n900? Is this possible?

WhatsApp Messenger is a smartphone messaging app which allows you to exchange messages with your friends and contacts without having to pay for SMS. WhatsApp Messenger is cross platform and available for iPhone, BlackBerry, Android and Nokia (beta) and yes, those phones can all message each other! To send and receive messages, WhatsApp utilizes your existing smartphone internet data plan: 3G/EDGE (or Wi-Fi when available)

In addition to messaging, iPhone, Android and BlackBerry WhatsApp Messenger users can send each other unlimited images, video and audio media messages.

It would certainly be nice to have WhatsApp available as a plugin for Maemo. But it is 3rd party software, and not free for all platforms (for Symbian they charge 2- 3 dollars per year after trial period), I seriously doubt they will grant anyone on these forums acces to the software code. And I may not advise you to hack this app in order to get the code and port it, that would be stealing.

Or am I wrong?

This would definitely be a nice addition.

But as brought up, I see this really difficult to come to maemo. As I see it, it will be having a growing impact and more and more users every day. With maemo waiting to be replaced by meego, of which little is yet known, I don't see whatsApp coming.

i would actually love to see this feature, but if there is a port for Android, I'd think they should release one for Maemo

Am I the only one that thinks than being tied up is wrong?

Using jabber (gtalk for example) and I can use whatever the h*** I want to talk with someone. I can be talking on my phone, get home and go on talking on my computer with a nice keybooard; can't do that with whatsup!

The older I get, the more I hate being tied up to a company's software, whichever it is.

Just my two cents

Ohwell, I asked about who the felt about porting whatsapp to Maemo5, this is what i got back from them.

"Sorry, your device maemo is currently not supported and we have no plans to support it at this time. We currently only support iPhone, BlackBerry, Android and Symbian devices."

Kind regards,
Futtawuh
