hi,

might seem a bit of a stupid question this.

is there a way to turn off the proximity sensor so it doesnt make whatever i have open (browser, camera are the main one) minimise when my hand brushes over the sensor on the left hand side. i obviously need it when making calls to turn off the screen.

its the only real issue i have with the phone but cant seem to turn it off.

oh before any help i dont really know what im doing in x termnal

thanks

chris

um mine doesn't do that at all, and i'm pretty sure its not meant to. have you installed some kind of extra control like camkeyD that would cause it to act as a seperate function?

I have a similar 'annoyance' - especially when web surfin' in landscape mode, my finger sometimes rests of the proximity sensor and then dims the screen.

A way to turn it off would be good - especially for certain progs (ie MicroB)

Don't install applications if you don't know what they do...

Uninstall shortcutD

If you do use the half-pressed camera button to minimize install camkeyD

Quit the preaching - sometimes it's the only way of finding out what they do.

I'm sure we've all installed apps, then later completely forgotten doing it.

Yeah but not background applications.

And you can read the application's [Announce] post on the forum.

I must be just a a hell of a wild reckless crazy kinda guy then!

But seriously, if you manage to find something that's screwing up your phone it's normal a fairly simple operation to remove it. Even stuff from extras-devel. If it's a complete and utter disaster, you can always re-flash. And something I've never had to do. yet...

If you go to Settings -> ShortcutD, you should be able to turn off the proximity sensor and just set the camera key (both short and long press) to do what you need it to do.
You can also have the proximity sensor enabled, but set it to activate only after you hold a finger above it for couple seconds.
All those changes you can made from the Settings app.

Hope this helps.

Just a note though, the proximity sensor is always active, even when it's not in use by any apps, not sure whose wise decision that was...
