As we got a FM receiver (aka radio) and an FM transmitter in the N900 wouldnt it be possible to make a FM walkie talkie.
I know, the range would not be far, but as said its just an idea.

Nice idea, but due to the very limited range you'd be better off just talking 'normally' to each other!

I thought about this for half a minute, like how this could be done and then led to the eventual end that if this works it means two people can talk to each other in short-great distances. and only then did it hit me that conventional telephony already achieves this . FAIL.

In a sense I understand why it would not be practical to have one. But I remember when I had a walkie talkie, I used it mostly to listen to other people communicating =)

I keep getting surprised over the crazy ideas people come up with. No offense whatsoever to OP, but I think this is one of those ideas that should be scrapped even before getting on the drawing table.

Looking at other posts the range is less than 10m.

push to talk would be nice, it was fun using it with my friend with distances over 400km

May be useful in below situation...
Crowded london underground train where there is no mobile signal.
Luckily you have got a seat. Your buddy gets into the same compartment in the next station and sees you. He gets a seat 10m away from you and wants to talk to you on something very urgent.

Other way : Bluetooth file transfer with the text message. :-)
