Hi
Does anyone know if there is a software available for n900 to play direct tv using a TV dongle?

I wish it could be.

Maybe with the new USB-Host mode support...

Not heard of anything like any dongle software but you can download TV Catchup player from the repos. This will allow you to watch Live TV AND sign in to TVCatchup.com for other Free-to-Air (Free view) channels through 3g&Wifi. KMPlayer will also allow you to watch World wide TV and Movies too.

Hope that helps.

That is what I hope, when I get my usb adapter (maybe today) I will let you know. I don't know however what player software I should use if that device is detected properly. Maybe vlc?

It should work with the USB host mode, note that you should include the modules/drivers for the USB dongle. And the power consumation of that dongle should be very low. I don`t know if there is a dongle with such low power consumation. For more info regarding power conusmation chech the Host Mode discussion thread.

acvetkov: I guess if the power consumption proves to be too high I could try with a powered usb hub, just to get rid of that issue.
But to include the modules/drivers, how could I do that? Would I need some debian sources for the specific manufacturer/brand and then recompile them to the n900, or what? Is that what you meant?

Only works for people who sign up from a computer in the UK.

desktop version of vlc let's you play from tv-cards that have the proper drivers for them in the system. So, you can probably start vlc from console to get video from tv-card on n900.
