Hey everyone

I've been having an issue with my phone lately, when I get a text message and it comes out of standby mode.

The touch screen gets completely inaccurate for a bit, and when i touch the upper corner of the screen, it swipes over to the right instead of opening the message. It's also done things like go into edit mode where you can change the screen settings (ie add widgets), and pressing 'Done' has absolutely no effect.

A powercycle (turn off phone, take out battery for 30 seconds) does fix it temporarily, and It's fully up-to-date (PR 1.3). I've also done an OS reload.

The issue seems to last for maybe 30 seconds, and it's been extremely annoying. If anyone has some ideas, they'd be greatly appreciated.

The phone is about 9 months old, and otherwise in fine shape.

Have you tried recalibrating the screen? (Although if that was the problem I would expect it to be wrong all the time, not just sometimes). Have you got a screen protector on, as sometimes they can interfere?

Have you looked to see if there are any processes such as checking for updates that kick in when you start it that are causing it to fail to respond quickly enough?

Try starting it without any networking connections switched on.

I do have a screen protector, and I did an accuracy test from the HealthCheck app and it was fine after having used the standby switch to wake it up. I didn't notice anything unusual.

If it happens again though, I'll take off the screen protector and see what happens

@ uTMY: I don't think that's the issue... I tried removing a couple of apps like OMWeather and FM Radio.

Also, sent myself a test from a web app on my provider's website after removing it and it seems better for now, but I'll continue to monitor the situation.

Have you used Conky to watch CPU usage etc when the issue occurs and what running processes are happening at that time.

side note: I think it might be the screen protector. it went into that settings mode again, this time when i closed it...

EDIT: son-of-a-.... lol. I think that was it. Strange that it never gave me a problem until now. I'll continue to monitor the situation and post if it happens to do anything weird again.

EDIT2: Yep. definitely the screen protector. The problem has pretty much disappeared since removing it. Thanks for the tips

Without a screen protector watch out for scratches, I use a screen cover and never had an issue with it for normal use but the protector does have several hefty scratches in it now rather than the phone!

i tried 3 screen films and also gave me same issue (but not as bad as yours). still, i am using a screen film, but the one that came with an "otter box" its very fine, so it seems like no screen film at all.

also, i dont encourage anyone to get an otter box just for the screen film.

i happen to bump on a thread (that i cant find after 10 mins of power searching) here that has a link to an online site which sells what they call a "nano tech screen film" haven't tried that one but reported to be super thin, and no issues on the sensitivity of the touchscreen.
