Hi everyone,

I bought this amazing device N900 a week ago and I'm trying to set it up. But things are a little complicated and I will appreciate a little help.

First of all, I want to assure you that I made everything possible to figure it out myself. I've been reading the forum for one week now, using the search function, jumping back and forward between info sources, I caught a few good topics and then lost them... So I tried to prepare my homework, but it's beyond me.

So here is what I want to achieve:

1. Flash the device with the latest Maemo PR1.3 to get a clean start and erase everything from previous owner.

2. Install PowerKernel and overclock my cpu to around 900-1000Mhz

3. Find the thread which exlpains how to create different profiles for the cpu usage and which is best. I had it but I lost it. For example, I remember someone saying that if we have only two usage settings - idle @300Mhz and max @supportedMax, we can get the best battery life and performance. But others are using different profiles... Is there a common agreement these days on what are the best settings, or not really? Where can I read more?

4. (optional) Install latest NitDroid as a second OS

So the goal is to have a fresh install of the latest and greatest Maemo with an overclocked cpu, good battery life and (optionally) a NitDroid.
If the above 4 points don't make sense and you would recommend another scenario, please advise!

I will appreciate your help! Thanks!
Bojo

Hi, welcome to the forum.

1. Read through the Wiki here: http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_tablet_firmware. It may seem daunting at first, but just find the section relevant to you, read it though a few times and hopefully it should start to become clear. To remove all traces of the previous users you should probably flash both the Fiasco (Firmware) and the eMMC (home partition, 'N900' through file manager). Any problems just post back.

2 / 3. In your App manager you'll find an app called 'Advanced Linux Kernel for Power Users', install it, then reboot, then install 'Advanced Linux Kernel for Power Users - Settings'.
Install 'rootsh' and 'Filebox' and 'Faster Application Manager' while you're there, these will make your life much easier.
Once you've done that, have a read of this Wiki: http://wiki.maemo.org/Kernel_Power

4. Have a look here http://wiki.nitdroid.com/index.php?title=N900-install and maybe have a read of the Nitdroid forums too.

I hope this helps
