Try doing it with battery in.

If that doesn't work, try using a different USB port on your computer.

If THAT doesn't work, try plugging it in first, while holding U, keep holding U until it says driver installed, and if it get that far, THEN run the flasher command.

Also, what operating system are you on? How often have you flashed before?

Im on Debian but also tried xp, I did try with the battery. It is wierd because before I remember there was a option in uboot for nolousb or something but now no matter holding u before then plugging in or anything it still goes to a maemo screen that says nstalling software update please do not interupt on the phone and stays on 4% and debian and windows never even see the phone. this is my 4th reflash but i have had lots of problems before. I just came home today and the phone was dead, and would not reboot. also just noticed when i plug in to the charger it goes to that screen too and im not sure its charging though when i unplug it it does stay on... im at a loss. thanks mentalist for responding.
