What would be your suggestions to improve battery life on n900?
What processes to disable? (does turning of some desktops will improve battery life?)
what is the best way to turn of some hardware like wifi when it is not needed?

turn off wifi, put ur coverage to only 2g (GSM), put ur minimum cpu speed to 125mhz to save power when not using phone, turn brightness to minimum.

use Connectnow to turn on/off wifi, 3G connexion with only one clic.

I'm not really sure, maybe decrease wifi power transmitter to 10 mw instead of 100 mw in wifi settings.

Install AutoDisconnect - it monitors WiFi/GSM internet connections and disconnects them automatically if they're not transmitting anything after a duration you decide upon. Saves up a lot of battery...
