Does boot video slows boot time, or is there any kind of parallelism when loading the system?

Measure it? Should not take more than 2 minutes Report back here.

I would say that I would be amazed if it didn't extend boot time.

(To disable it search here and wiki)

I don't have one at this time

Of course I believe that it extends, but what I want to know is if it extends directly by the video length or if is there some background boot activity at the same time the video plays.

Looks like it's an Xsession.d script, and hildon-welcome doesn't fork out of it, so it might indeed be delaying boot time
Code:
Nokia-N900:~# time /usr/bin/hildon-welcome --gst-disable-registry-update
real	0m 7.90s
user	0m 0.00s
sys	0m 0.00s

I would like to see bootinfo rather than the video.

At least it consumes little bit of battery for vain, so I'd guess a typical N900 user would want it disabled as it is so easy.
