Hi all. I've had my N800 for about two weeks. Today, I was watching movies with mplayer, as I often do, and I wanted to go back to the home screen to change the screen brightness.

I held down the home key, which took me to the home screen. When I got there, my touches weren't registering in the correct locations. I also noticed that the device is registering some type of input every two seconds, opening the drop-down menu. The touchscreen is basically useless. I can't even calibrate it.

I rebooted, and the problem continued. Help!?!?

Edit: Could it be something with the buttons on the left side? D-pad and others?

I'd first check if some dirt has entered at the corners and sides putting some pressure on the touch screen.

But otherwise, this sounds like a warranty repair. As you have the device only for a short time, you could also demand an exchange.

That may be what I have to do.

Edit: It seems to me that something is wrong with the buttons on the left side of the face. I'm positive they are what's causing this.

The thread "N800 touchscreen unresponsive" may be useful. You can find it by searching for 'faceplate'.

Always try reflashing your device before sending it away for 2 months. This software is so buggy maybe the files in the operating system for the touch screen got corrupted. It's definately worth a shot to try.

Yeah, I reflashed. It's going to have to go in for repair. I hope they just replace it.

sdrman, it's not specifically a touchscreen issue. I think that's just a side-effect of the buttons on the face not working properly.

It's on the way to the repair center. Here's hoping I won't be without it for too long.

Still haven't gotten it back, yet. I hope it shows up before my vacation, August 1st.
