Whenever I receive an IM (like Skype) message, it will mute my music for a couple seconds.

So If I tak with 2 people, I cant hear my music anymore.....

This is very annoying.... How can we fix this?

Yes, the volume of the IM is at the lowest.

No, but that would make my phone totally silence....

Anyone else has any solution?

I'd have suggested going to "Settings" -> "Profiles" and changing your IM alert tone to "None". But just had a look and it seems you can't do that.

Maybe there is a performance issue. Use top to see what is the CPU usage when IM is received.

no, there is no performance issue. the n900 just wants to play the "IM-received-sound"

solution: just change profile to 'silent' and set 'vibration' on

Then why the music playback stops? I thought it would be mixed with IM sound.

Music stops because the sound driver can only handle one process at a time - therefore, if you are listening to music, the music will cut out for another higher priority event that requires sound, such as an IM alert, before re-instating itself once the other "event" has concluded.

Solution - do not have an IM alert, or as Turkishflavour said, change to silent with vibration on.
