Well am using VNC Viewer and Ubuntu 10.10 and it will not connect to the remote desktop. I have tried but no luck

This is my Ubuntu wireless adapter:

wlan1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:0e:9b:2b:2a:9f
inet addr:192.168.1.5 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
inet6 addr: fe80::20e:9bff:fe2b:2a9f/64 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:132121 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:103853 errors:0 dropped:8 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:175360373 (175.3 MB) TX bytes:18576622 (18.5 MB)
Interrupt:19 Memory:d3105000-d3105800

This worked fine in Windows so why not Linux or is the remote desktop not VNC?

What precisely are you referring to, or trying to achieve. There's a lack of context.

I am trying to view my computer screen on my phone through VNC, I achieved this on windows 7 using real vnc, and was pointed to using Vino on Ubuntu. But it fails to connect.

Make sure you have not just the IP address but the desktop number, usually used like this:

<ip address>:0

Ubuntu has a default remote desktop application installed as standard!

Sounds like you need to configure Ubuntu to allow remote desktop access, I cant remember the exact location of the settings, this may help

it does works as it was the reason I switched from suse which has a vnc bug to ubuntu in the first place!!!!

I found that VNC would freeze with Ubunto10.1 if you were running with the Enhanced desktop settings (Wobbley windows) turned on.

You may need to turn this feature off in order to use a remote connection on the N900 (when you get connected that is)

thanks Raif and MINKIN2 that helped great, because it finally connected but the screen was frozen so I turned off the effects.
