The reply I got from Nokia Care regarding a little issue I had while trying to reflash my device..

"Dear Mr. Davies, Thank you for contacting Nokia Care. We understand that you are trying to reflash your Nokia N900 software. Please be advised that we do not recommend our consumers to reflash their devices. Therefore, may we suggest that you take your mobile to the nearest Nokia Care Point (NCP) for an assistance and also for out technicians to assess your device. However, charges may apply as reflashing will void the warranty of your device. "

Maybe I missed it, but I dont remember reading anywhere else that flashing the device would void the warranty.....

Excuse me? Woiding the warranty from flashing? I don't buy that, I need, no, request, the full source from Nokia itself to say this same. Also, how are they going to prove us, that we've flashed the device by ourselfs? Aren't they going to re-flash it anyways so why should it care? There's though the IMEI-code, which lists, as far as I know, all the firmwares and downloads for that IMEI. So yeah, I'm pretty much out of warranty then, eh?

Hmm. Well, I'll wait for the experts to join in. I know I've heard about this earlier but it was related to the fact, that you'd brick your device whilst doing it, not when it was successful. I think.

It's rubbish, it's a case of the Nokia Care employee not knowing what they're talking about with regards to the N900. That's obviously the policy they have with other devices but the N900 is somewhat of a black sheep that they don't seem to know about.

Strange.

Nokia provides the software to flash our devices themselves.
When you use flasher or NSU (or updating OTA which is also flashing) there is no message that tells us that we are voiding our warranty.

Doesn't Nokia also encourage users sometimes to re-flash the device with provided tools, if OTA doesn't work? Or is the Ovi Suite so much different from flasher? I don't know, since I'm using a Mac and Nokia still doesn't provide us with the Ovi Suite, we're stuck with flasher/770Flasher.

Yes, I browsed through that and that is for the software. So we have no warranty for the software, correct? Why should we lose the hardware-warranty then, if the software is not valid on warranty anymore?

Odd. Please, feel free to correct me, if I'm wrong (which I most likely am, in this case, since I know nothing about this).
