i bought n n900(my precious with a scratch) for £120 second hand and would like to know why the ************************************************** ******* it didnt recognize the sim for a period of 10 minutes on two occasions within 3 weeks of buying it until i took the back off and prodded the sim a bit then put the back back on.

is this a bug,,,is this phone ******** (the one i bought),,,,,or,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,is there a ghost in the machine?

i think the last one is hardly unlikely,,,,but this smartphone is for smart people with an imagination or so id like to think!

i cant afford though to happen if im honest! so help is needed cheers thanks

Also if anyone has the day night beecon working 24/7 could they please explain how they did it cheers!

A common problem, if you search you'll find dozens of threads about N900 not recognizing SIM cards.

The usual suggestion is to ensure you've got the latest system update installed on your N900, as some SIM problems were fixed early on.

If you click Settings -> About product, it will show the version.

WoW best thread title ever, lol.

Anyway... if it recognizes it after a prod it could be hw issue especially if its loose. try a piece of paper to wedge it in place. or like stlpaul said there has been quite a few reports on sim card not being recognized. and they were manly sw issues.

P.S welcome to the forum hope you enjoy yourself

+1 for hardware fault, there's a good chance the SIM card is bad. If it looks bent/"chewed up" at all it's probably not making good contact.

I cant find the secret to getting that day/night working though
the creator has given up on my question on his official post so I can only presume no one actually uses it.
this can't be the case, he obviously knows how to work it! bad times bad times,
