So Ari had the intelligence to foresee the Nokia/MS alliance coming and decided to abandon the sinking ship.

Today Nokia showed the open source community its' middle finger. Anybody who thinks differently is delusional.

What makes this even more painful that some of the Nokia mouthpieces were spewing oficial corporate propaganda on these very boards about how great Meego's future looked. Sad.

Discuss.

I'm not sure if it was intelligence, but him being in the top position of MeeGo it might have been told or clear to see.

He seems to be enjoying his position in HP(and post a lot more in his twitter )

Ari's blog

"On another note, I worry about my old friends a lot. I’m sad to see they no longer trust they can make a difference. They’ve given up and given away their passion. Sorry, that ain’t gonna work. You must believe yourself and what you are up to, and you must believe you can change the world. That’s the only way I know. All the best, though."

Ari is as enthusiastic as before, and now seems to have organization that lets him to do what he's capable of doing.

Making the jump decision between WebOS and Android bit easier.

I think the 'peeing in their pants' jibe he made was actually aimed at the Nokia board. He couldn't reasonably stay knowing what was going to happen. Looks like Jaaksi has real balls, shame we can't conclude the same about the Nokia men in grey suits, bringing in Elop as their assassin and all that.

This whole Maemo/MeeGo+Symbian+Qt/MeeGone disaster smells like the (thankfully now thwarted) plan in the UK to knock down the Olympic athletics stadium for redevelopment after using it for just two weeks next Summer.

Nope, that was Vanjoki.

Mega-OOOOPPPSSS!

I get all these guys names muddled, but Vanjoki must have still been referring to the Nokia board. And Jaaksi still rocks as far as I'm concerned.

@Rauha

Well right now I wish him well (although right now it's actually his former colleagues who're getting kicked in the kerb). As opposed to the unspeakable new ms (dis)appointment, Ari I always believed to have the best of intentions even if the execution of those intentions left a lot to be desired.

HP is HP (I know them well) and they aren't Nokia (I thought I knew them too) but perhaps the execution side at HP/Palm works out better. Not long ago HP simply refused to sell me a laptop without ms-windows (it was available with Linux or w/o OS elsewhere) but with HP being (hopefully) too big to be kneecapped by MS (or one of their undercovers) I hope Ari gets to show his full potential there.

That said I'm far from convinced that HP is too big to capitulate to ballmer's orders.

Also, while I come from the GTK side, I'm distressed that the very promising Qt framework was allowed to be compromised so easily by ms-flop.

Maybe HP should buy the former Finnish crown jewel on the cheap before it is ground to dust completely and appoint Ari as the CEO?

Then the "mystery of Ari Jaaksi" would truly be revealed.
